Pricing for Facebook Muse
What does the price drop on tokens signal?
The most interesting aspect of the new Facebook Muse Spark announcement is the pricing.
The contributor API which presumably means Facebook trains on your data is 10c/20c for 1M tokens in/out. That’s lower than Deepseek flash pricing! This is approximately 10% of their regular pricing. From a quick glance at the internet, the model is capable, but not at the frontier. It does represent a quick turn around since the Muse 1.1 release just a few weeks ago.
This pricing strategy isn’t all the different from the heavily subsiized subscriptions from Anthropic and OpenAI. Those subs are probably more generous, but maybe Facebook’s API pricing strategy will avoid the embarassing rate limits plaguing the labs’ offerings.
