Pushups Update
By Max | August 8, 2007
I did 100 yesterday. It was easy. I did 1 set of 20 in the morning followed by 2 sets of 10. Then when I found an empty conference room at work I did 2 sets of 10 pretty fast. Later that evening after singing a few karaoke songs I busted out the last 40 with 2 sets of 10 and 1 set of 20.
I am not too sore today, and doing 100 was pretty easy, so tomorrow I am going to shoot for 200. I think I’ll be able to knock 200 out with no problem. My body will probably start having trouble once I get up to 400-500. At that point I am just going to have to build up to 1000. If you only do 1 pushup each minute, it would take 16 hours and 40 minutes to complete a thousand. Everyone has a different strategy I suppose. I would like to finish mine in less than 16 hours, so I can get some sleep, but we’ll see.

Just did my first 100 after reading this post. I did it in about 15 minutes. First set of 40, then a set of 30, then two sets of 15. It was pretty easy, but I would have struggled to hit 200 within a half hour, but spread out over a whole day it would be nothing.
I’ll do 200 tomorrow.

Wow, you are going to breeze through this challenge. I still think 1000 in a day would be challenging for anyone though.
I am pretty sure I couldn’t do a single set of 40.

I just did a set of 40 to see how hard it is. Then I went down on the weight bench to compare how heavy a push up feels. I’m about 155 lbs right now. I only have pairs of 35 and 45 dumb bells, so I could only test 70 and 90 pounds, but a push-up felt a lot closer to 70 than 90. It’s not scientific, so take it for what it’s worth–maybe a push up is about half your weight?

Yesterday I did 200. One set of 50 in the morning before work, then two sets of 50 before dinner at night, then two sets of 25 after. I am a little sore today, but not bad.
This morning I did 40 and will try to do 300 today. I am heading out to Vegas for the weekend, so I will be surprised if I stay on that regimen over the weekend.
My goal is to get 1000 in 24 hours within three weeks.

Here’s a strategy I was thinking about in case you are having trouble. Do 500 before bed, then sleep your normal shift, then do the rest in the morning. I have no idea if this will work, but it will fit the 24 hour rule.

That’s pretty impressive. I recently started doing pushups when I wake up..I do around 20-25. It’s gonna take me a while to get to 100.

Just knocked out 300. I did it while watching the latest Real World. Hit four sets of 50, then a set of 60, then a set of 25, then finished off with a set of 15. Did it in about an hour total. I had taken the weekend off save for some small sets of 50 here and there. I was in Vegas BSing with some pals and was also fighting off a crappy cough.
Here’s to a grand…
