Blog Promotion
By Max | May 22, 2007
So just being awesome isn’t good enough anymore to get people to visit your website. I am going to have to make a concentrated effort to bring more visitors to this website, since I want it to be successful.
It’s time to start promoting my website. I am going to try to do something each day to bring more traffic to this site, and a couple of my other sites, How to Buy Websites and Final Fantasy Fan.
A friend of mine mentioned mybloglog as a good source of traffic in the early days for a blog. I signed up with the service. Now all I have to do is start visiting other people’s blogs, so my avatar will appear on their website and hopefully get some clicks. I carefully selected a hot Penn State cheerleader as my avatar, since I think that will convince a lot of hornballs to click on it. They are going to be in for a surprise when they find out the cheerleader picture is not mine. Check it out…

About a third of my traffic comes from searches (google only–yahoo is too snobby or something). Another third comes from referrals (mostly social networking sites). The other third is direct visits (probably skewed because I visit my site all the time).
Because some of my traffic comes from searches,I’m convinced that if I keep hammering away with good blog articles, it will work out for me as the pool of searchable content increases.
The hot Penn State cheerleader is gold (and won’t they be surprised).

Search traffic is a gold mine. You can even game the system a little by writing about things which have a disproportionate amount of searches compared to existing webpages.
What program are you using to track your stats. If you’re not using google analytics, then you probably should be. Many server side stat programs have skewed data for one reason or another.
