I Retract My Former Statement, The Younanimous Guys Are Geniuses

By Max | April 5, 2007

Today was pretty eventful. I got a comment from Dan of Younanimous.com. You can check it out here. His is the first comment. I guess this D-list celebrity stuff is already working out.

Apparently there are no angel investors involved in this project and Dan and his two friends just created the younanimous search engine themselves. They are also entertaining suggestions to rename the search engine since they have already realized what I pointed out as a flaw in my previous post. This gives me an idea.

Dan, let’s hold a “Name the Search Engine” contest. Since younanimous.com is a new entry into the ever more crowded search engine game, they are going to need some good old fashioned grass roots popularity. Webmasters are not likely to shy away from an opportunity to get their site listed highly in search engine rankings even a new one, so this is what I propose. Have bloggers link to younanimous.com in a post about the “Name the Search Engine” contest. Then they’ll submit their suggested name. The winner of the contest should get a link to their site at the top of the sponsored results (if they don’t have ‘em yet, I’m sure they will) for the five search phrases they pick for a year.

I’ll go ahead and make my suggestion… younan.com! Whoops, just checked, that one is taken. How about
unaan.com? Nope… taken. Looks like this is going to be harder than I thought. I’ll have to do some more thinking. But I think the contest is still a valid idea to generate interest in your search engine.

If you haven’t checked out Younanimous yet, go ahead and give it a whirl. I think they are trying to actually implement what that wikia guy just keeps talking about.

EDIT: The Younanimous guys just announced a new name. The new search engine will come to be known as aftervote.com, as in search results after people have voted on them. I still think they should run a naming contest. :)
