Whoever Funded Younanimous Is An Idiot.

Yesterday, I read a review of a new search engine called Younanimous. The search engine itself is actually pretty good. It combines rankings from the top three, MSN, google, and Yahoo! to present its rankings. Unlike other meta search engines though, Younanimous combines these rankings with a user voting system to help filter out the spammy trash sites. I thought this was quite good.
The example they give is searching for Viagra. On some search engines a lot of spammy sites will pop up leaving the searcher looking for real information. With a user voting system, these sites get filtered out.
Now here’s the problem with Younanimous. IT’S FREAKING NAME IS TOO LONG. The first rule of search engines should be that they are easy to use. Google, Yahoo, and MSN are all really easy to type in to the URL address bar. They are easy to spell too. I have to think about what I am typing everytime I type Younanimous in. Thats horrible. If it wasn’t hard enough to break into the search market, they have really done themselves a huge disservice with this blunder. I can’t believe the developers and the investors didn’t think of something that obvious. Even if Younanimous would otherwise become a great search engine with lots of users and excellent search results, they won’t ever be able to find out because the average guy is going to go with an easier option.

We are doing a name change shortly, Although I always thought the name was ‘clever’ . We will be switching to yet another arbitrary web2.0 name such as “ragoop” or “asdeef” etc.. If you have any suggestions let me know.
Also, Its not ‘funded’ by anyone, Its just 3 of us
